VISITING ORCHESTRA. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec 30,
Herr Verbrugghen has announced that the State Orchestra will shortly he' visiting New Zealand, not under a guarantee as in view of the great enthusiasm and appreciation of the people of the Dominion it was felt they would not be justified in again calling on them for guarantees. He added that ho knew from letters he had received, that the first visit of tho Orchestra had resulted in a powerful stimulus’ to New Zealand musical organisations. The choirs with which they eo-operafed in Auckland, and Wellington were of splendid quality. It was really surprising how intelligently the choristers responded to the demands he made upon them.
PAYMENTS TO TEST TEAMS. MELBOURNE, Dec. 30. The Board of Cricket Control lias decided that in addition to the allowance of £25 for each player in the test matches, the players shall each receive a bonus of £5. The board has approved of the matches arranged for the next Australian Eleven’s English tour, and also of a six weeks’ tour in South Africa when returning. The board discussed the question of barracking at matches, and decided to create a force of special constables to deal with the nuisance.

WHARF CHARGES RAISED. MELBOURNE, Dec. 30. Owing to the increased cost of hi hour and materials, the Melbourne Harbour Trust is increasing its' wharfage charges. The present rates arc 2s ; d and 3s 4d per ton. These arc being advanced to a uniform charge of 5s per ton on goods from overseas. The t< linage rates on overseas vessels have been advanced from Ad to Jd per gross ton. The charges for sheds and overseas berths have also been increased. Tho increases operate from the commencement of the New Year.
