General Cavirlia anniunces that he is making an official entry into Fiume, thus ending the D’Annunzio episode. D’Annunzio is not wounded. Thirty regular soldiers were killed, and a hundred wounded. FIGHT FOR FIUME. LONDON, December 27.
Royalists are closing in on Fiume. Somo reports from Rome state that regulars occupy the town. There has iboen considerable bloodshed, mostly around the barricades, barbed wire and fortified houses where the insurgents made a determined stand. While the Royalists are hampered by Giolitti’s request to avoid unnecessary bloodshed, they were compelled to storm machine guns at tlie point of the bayonet. Had they been allowed to uqe artilleiry, they would have taken the town in a few hours for they had overwhelming numbers. j * THE ENTRY TO FIUME. PARIS, Dec. 29. : General Gavigles has entered Fiume. GIVEN UP CONTROL. (Received This Day at 10.35 a.m.) ROME. December 20. The newspaper “Corriere della Sera” states D’Annunzio has handed over authority to the Communal Council at Fiume.
