It is understood that the amended harbour scheme designed by a commission of engineers (Mr William Ferguson Blgir Mason and Mr Cyrus Williams) provides for the same site as originally recommended but the area is reduced to 120 acres, with a depth at the entrance of 35feet, and the cost is estimated at one million. As a means of temporary relief to the present piled inner harbour, tlie commission recommends inter-alia, a mid-wall in the entl ranee channel which will reduce the width of the entrance to 100 feet.
