“THE LOST LEGION.”

SANDRINGHAM, Oct. 17. This afternoon the King unveiled a memorial to 77 men of the Sandringham estate who lost their lives during the war. Twenty of these perished in Gallipoli, together with the 15th Norfolk Regiment—tlie Lost Legion—when it made its charge into the forest and ‘.‘was lost to sight and sound.” The cross, a plain one, to use the King’s own words, lias been erected by tlie King and Queen, and there are all the names of all the men who died. Eyes were very wet this afternoon when tlie simple service was taking place. Soon after three o’clock the royal party arrived—the King and Queen, Queen Alexandra, Princess Victoria, Princess Mary, and Prince Henry. The Union Jack fluttered down, there were some hymns and a whispered prayer, and the King, with his own people of Sandringham standing around within a few feet of him, dedicated the memorial. The steps were soon a mass of flowers, the King having first deposited a laurel wreath and Queen Alexandra a bouquet of white chrysanthemums. And as the royal party walked away they spoke with the relatives.
