BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASfcN., COPYRIGHT. WELLINGTON BURGLARY. Dec 23. When the premises of Messrs C. Smith and Co. Drapers in Cuba Street, were opened for business this morning the management discovered that they had been entered during the night by burglars, and that goods to tho value of about £2OO were missing, A good many of the missing articles aro stated to have been taken from the blouse department. Apparently the burglars entered tho premises from the back.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 24
A conference of representatives of ex-soldiers organisations from all parts of the Empire is to be held at Capetown on February 23rd next. Earl Haig will preside. The countries represented will he Great Britain, Canada, South Africa, - Australia, and New Zealand, and delegates will attend from fourteen separate organisations. The conference will discuss many matters of interest to returned soldiers'. The New Zealand returned soldiers’ association has nominated as delegates at the gathering, C. W. Batten of Wellington, and W. E. Leadloy of Christchurch.
BUILDING PERMITS. WANGANUI, December 24. Building permits for the year ended December 24th. in the Borough are valued at £231,453, about fifty per cent above last year. YOUNG MAN DROWNED. “ WANGANUI, December 24. Percy Stitt about 25 years age, was ddowned at Castle cliff this morning. Deceased was a visitor from Wellington, where he was employed in the G.P.O.
