“That where a specialist certifies that n man is incurable, lie shall he granted a permanent full pension for life,” was a remit adopted by the recent R.S.A. executive conference and brought before the notice of the Minister for Defence. The Minister has replied that the Government is advised that medical opinion is against the proposal that a permanent full pension should be granted in cases reported on as incurable, and that the periodic review by tho War Pensions Board of the grant in such cases is working satisfactorily.

A> gig accident in which the Rev. W. J. Gow, of Rem tier a, Auckland, had a remarkable escape, occurred in the Man gaturoto Gorgo last Sunday. Says a writer in the Westport “Times”—Whilst visting Charleston on Saturday, we were interestingly entertained by mine host Chapnimf, of the European Hotel. We read portion of a book published in the year 1686, tasted . champagne that had been in the liar of j that hotel for 50 years, and handled a ! dice box that was used in the roar t 1868, in the good old days of civilisation. There are some very fin o steel engravings hanging on the walls of this typically old-time hostel. On ! visiting tile Lodge-room, upstairs, we i noticed on the various merit boards of J the different lodges that assembled in that room such names as P.G.M. Bro. AV. G. Collins, March 31, 1868, and the j Oldfellows’ nud the Foresters’ hoard I dated hack to 1871. We were so in-' terested in the many items of note to i he seen that an overcoat was left he- ! hind on the premises. Next mowi ro • the coat duly arrived at the resider.c ! of its owner in Westport thanks to a kind friend. ’ On Friday evening Mr Albert Osborne, of Feilding, left his motor car outside the Manchester Hotel, Feilding, j while he went into the hotel to change , his clothes. AA’hile so engaged, he heard a motor start, and thinking the sound familiar lie looked out of the , window and saw his car being driven by ' a young man in tho direction of Bunnythorpe. He at once got another car

I and followed to Bunnytborpe, where I li,e got news of the runaway. The driver had stopped at the hotel there, : and it was stated had picked up a passenger for the Grand Hotel, at Palmerston North. Tiffs clue was followed , up, and it was found that the passenger had lieen dropped at the Grand Hotel, and the car taken elsewhere. The car was eventually run to earth at 'the Cafe de Paris Hotel, where the * driver had put up for the night. Later, Detective Culloty effected the arrest 1 of a young man named Andrew Deer, * alias Bezzant, of (Palmerston North. 1 The prisoner was brought before the Court on 'Saturday morning on a charge of stealing the car, which is valued at ‘ £225, and was remanded until Tuesday. j Less labour and infinitely better re ! suits. These are tbe benefits of using j TAN-OTj for polishing floors, furniture | and leather goods. i .......
