THE DAVIS CUP
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Dee. 17. The players concerned in tiie Davis Cup competition have been unable to get steady practise on grass for three days, owing to the unfavourable weather. It was, intended to have practice this morning on the special court in the Domain, but the light rain which fell made the courts unfavourable for play. This Davis Cup court will he practised on fairly frequently next week, in order that the players may accustom themselves to the light and conditions there. Tlie Davis Cup players will pay a week-end visit to Rotorua, leaving Auckland to-morrow morning, and returning on Monday. It is probable that by that time tlie members of the New South Wales Tennis Association will be in Auckland. Indications point to a very large numbi< of tennis players and enthusiasts in Australia, who have booked to see the Davis Cup, being nimble to he here in time, oil account of shipping b ir.g held i.p hv tlie stewards’ strike. The special hookings to date have very far exceeded the anticipations of the Tennis Association, and the financial success of the tournament is assured.
