LEAGUE OF NATIONS.

| , AUSTUALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION

i MR MILLEN INTERVIEWED.. I . * LONDON, Dec 10.

Mr Millen, . who is mainly devoting himself to tho Budget Commission this week, intervewed, says there has been spirited contests between those who apparently are inclined to accept the Secretariat’s proposals and those endeavouring to impose a check on the excessive expenditure. Although it cannot be said that entirely satisfactory /• safeguards are secured certain definite checks were obtained and a distinct step gained by tlie appointment of a committee to inquire into the organisation and salares of the secretariat and labor organisation. There is still a chance 0 f some equitable apportionment of the expenditure between members of the League, being evolved, instead of tlie existing scheme.

Mr Millen is hopeful of securing relief for Australia’s heavy contribution, but countries benefiting under th e postal convention scheme are fighting vigorously against any alteration. Mr Milleli said a number of the delegates bi-lingualism, drafted a resolution suggesting that children be taught their mother tongue and another, as an easy means of international communications. They also ask that the secretariat report next session the results attending the teaching of Esperanto.
