SHOOTING;

A series of shooting matches have been arranged by the Defence authorities for money prizes. Those affecting the Hokitika and Grey districts are as follows, entries being received up to 18th Dee. at the local defence office:— (Match No 1.-“-Returned Soldiers and Rifle Clubs.—2oo yds, 7 rounds, 2 compulsory sighters, 200 yds, vanishing figure 3 target, 5 rounds. Each hit to count 3 points. 5 seconds exposure. 500yds, 7 shots 1 compulsory sightef. Match No 2.—Territorials and cadets 16 to 18.—200vds, application 5 rounds 2 compulsory sighters, 200 yds snap shooting 5 rounds. 5 seconds allowed for each shot. Each hit to count 3 points. 500 yds, deliberate, 7 shots and one compulsory sigfiter. Match No 3.—Cadets 14 to 16. To fire with a .22 rifle. Application 7 rounds, 1 compulsory sighter. Snap shooting figure 3 targets, 5 rounds. Each hit to count 3 points. Application small target 7 rounds. Cadets to use rests in all matches. For competitors residing in Greymouth and Hokitika to be fired on Ist January at Hokitika. Match No I.—Prizes: Ist £l, 2nd 15s, 3rd 15s, 4tli 10s. Match No 2.—Prizes: Ist £1 os, 2nd £l, 3rd 15s, 4th 10s, sth 10s. Match No 3.—-To be fired in Hokitika on tho 18th of December and iri Greymouth on same date. Prizes : Hokitika. Ist 15s, 2nd His, 3rd os,; Grcymouth Ist £l, 2nd 15s, 3rd 10s, 4th ss. Entrance fee to cover cost of marking. Returned Soldiers, Rifle Clubs and Territorials 2s, Cadets o vei 16, Is, Cadets under 16, 6d.
