MONK LEADS LAND SEIZURE. ROME Oct. 3.

With one, party led by a monk, thousands of peasants in Sicily are reported by the Epoca to have set out to occupy several large estimates to cultivate them themselves.

The attempted seizure of land follows the recent occupation of factories by the metal-workers—now settled—and the Rome raids on uninhabited residences by homeless persons.

A movement “Land' for tho Peasants” was given the semi-approval of tho Government some months ago, when a decree was issued authorising the transfer'of uncultivated or badly cultivate land to recognised co-eperative societies of- peasants. But the Socialists took advantage of the decree to urge tho peasants to occupy any land they coveted. Some of the Catholic peasant organisations followed suit.

. £6,000 SAFE TAKEN. LONDON, Oct 3. Daring and skilful thieves stole a safe and its contents worth £6,000, from tho premises of Messrs M. Golodetz, textile traders, 140 Fernchurch-street, E.C., yesterday morning.
