MONK LEADS LAND SEIZURE. ROME, Oct. 3. With one party led by a monk, thousands of peasants in Sicily are reported by the Epoca to have set out to occupy several large estates to cultivate them themselves. This attempted seizure of land follows the recent occupation of factories by tlic metal-workers—now settled—and the Rome raids on uninhabited residences by homeless persons. A movement “Land for the Peasants” was given the semi-approval of the Government some months ago, when a decree was issued authorising the transfer of uncultivated or badly cultivated land to recognised co-operative societies of peasants. But the Socialists took advantage of the decree to urge the peasants to occupy any land they coveted. Some of the Catholic peasant organisations are following suit.
