NEW CATHOLIC BISHOP. SYDNEY, Dec. 3. Doctor Whyte, the new Catholic Bishop of Dunedin, is an oversea passenger by the Manuka. ACROSS AUSTRALIA. (Received This Day at 8.40 a.m.) PERTH, Dec 4. The aviator Degaris, with two mechanics, has completed the first east to west journey across Australia. They left Melbourne on Tuesday morning and arrived at Perth at mid-day 0 n Thursday, a distance of 2169 miles, and time 1,827 minutes. _____
GOOD COAL DISCOVERED. IN MARLBOROUGH. WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. A discoverey of bituminous coal is reported from Marlborough. It is accessible for transport. If the prospecting discloses a satisfactory extent of seam, mining will commence early.
