(Reuter's Telegram.! AMERICA AND CUBA. (Received This Day at 10.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov 30. United States Government is striving to prevent a situation arising that would compel American intervention in Cuba, owing to the chaotic condition of the latter’s political, financial and industrial affairs. The Washington Government is considering sending General Crowder, Judge Advocate General of tlie Army upon a special diplomatic mission to Cuba in the hope of straightening out the tangled situation. The
Cuban moratorium which, is expiring tomorrow has been extended till 31st Dec. The State Department, however', doeß not approve of this method of meeting the financial situation. The Cuban elec. ions were held on Ist Nov.,‘ but the returns are not yet complete.
IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENTS. „ (Received This Day at 11.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, November 30. Government has passed an Order in Council increasing individual immigrants, financial entrance requirements from 50 to 250 dollars. This his been done for the purpose of restrict', g immigration of merchants, artisans and labourers to Canada and to allef ite the j condition of unemployment now prevailing in the Dominion. The order becomes effecwves along the international border on December 15th., and ocean [ ports on January Ist, but does affect ; tourists, commercial travellers or re- ; turning Canadians. Immigrants with . families must possess, in additio l !•> transportation, a further sum of 125 dollars for every member of teen years or more, and forty dollars for each' child five years old and i ndor eighteen.
