UNION DISAGREEMENT. MELBOURNE Nov 29. The Federated Seamen’s Union of Aus tralasia has issued a writ against Mr Thomas Walsh, the secretary of the Sydney Branch, claiming an injunction restraining him from acting as secretary of the organisation.. THE UNEMPLOYED. SYDNEY, Nov 29. The increase of unemployment here is exciting attention. The Labour Union officials view with alarm the prospects for ’Xmas beeauso of the largo number of unemployed. An official of the Factory Employees’ Union states that he lias not seen so much unemployment for over thirty years. The employers state that it is due to a falling off in the export trade, and also to there being too much production for local consumption, and thirdly a i general tightening up process in tho money market. BATTLESHIP AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, Nov 29. The Federal Naval Minister, Sir Joseph Cook denies that widely prevalent idea that the battleship Ausralia is now an obsolete ship. He states that she will be of service for another ten years. He adds that should any emergency arise, the full complement of men necessary to man he r would bo made up without any difficulty. COST OF LIVING. MELBOURNE, November 29. At a conference of unions concerning the handling of foodstuffs, the suggestion was made that the export of meat wheat and butter should be boycotted till prices for local consumption were reduced.
It was eventually decided to appoint a committee to report concerning the line of action to be adopted.
