HOKITIKA HARBOUR BOARD
SATURDAY, 27th. NOVEMBER.
. The Board met at 5 p.m. Present— Messrs R. Wild (Chairman), J. .T. Breeze and M. Houston.
A hitter from the Returning Officer of the Westland County Council notifying the appointment of Messrs C. J. Nightingale and M. Houston as Members of the Hokitika Board to represent the County of Westland in the Harbour District was read. The Chairman welcomed Mr Houston the new member to the Board table, Mr Houston responding, after which the meeting proceeded.
Thje Balance Sheet for 1919, was received from the Audit Office certified to. Proposed by Mr Wild and seconded by Mr Breeze that the balance sheet as read be adopted.—Carried. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. inward correspondence. From Jas. Grant representing 15 sawmills re storage of timber in Hokitika. —Received. From W. F. Massey, re timber loading facilities.—Received. From Local Secretary, Canterbury Progress League, asking the Board to appoint three or more representatives to attend a meeting at the Town Hall on Wednesday, December Ist., in the afternoon re legislation affecting the Grey Harbour district arid the possibility of the Hokitika district being included in the Grey Area.—Received; lAs the time fixed for the afternoon was unsuitable it was decided to endeavor to arrange the meeting for iho evening.
From Messrs Butler Bros, ih further reference an application by the Totiva Sawmill Coy. for right of a tramway.— Received; It was resolved to let this matter drop.
From Messrs Guinness and Kitchingham re the above matter. —Received. From Harbours Association, re power of Boards generally to receive investments of Trust Money, also /e diverted railway coal.—Received. From Same enclosing copy of letter received from Minister of Railways re wharfage charges on diverted railway coal.—Received. From Harbour Board, : Napier, asking if there iB a 2-ton Crane for sale locally.—Replied to. From N.Z. Employers Association re cost of living bonus.—Received. - From proposed Local Bodies Officers Association.—Received. From W. E. Richardson and Co. of Auckland, re Divers outfit for sale.— Received. From P. P. M. Manning and Co., Christchurch re jointing.—Received. From Mrs C. Keller, Upper Thames, re rates.—Received and attended to. From P. Clare, Ross, re rates. —Received and attended to. Arrears of Rates. A list was put before the meeting and gone through •in detail, after which the Secretary was instructed to issue summonses for all arrears, commencing with those of £2 and upwards in the balance a month later. Accounts for £4l/18/7 were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported. Payments since last peering 226/0/4. Receipts £176/15/4. Bank N.Z. overdraft £6l/ 10/-. Cash in hand £l7/12/10. . The meeting then terminated.
