THE SECRET OF ENTHUSIASM
When all is. said and done, it is not this world that makes us educated, but the inner world that wo build within ourselves. The child has his inner world; that is why he is so happy, so sure, and so full of enthusiasm. Unfortunately,' because our inner world has not been built up, or because what little we have of an inner world is so put of joint with the outer, we grownups are not people full of enthusiasm. But what is life to us unless it is flowing through us every monrent of time, unless we grow from enthusiasm - to enthusiasm unless wo, stand in the centre?
“He that has light within his own clear breast “May sit i’th’ centre and enjoy bright day.” Those are the words of Milton, and they express whaf I feel is the vachievement possible for education. But those words will never be realised we understand the new spirit dawning for humanity, and infuse into education the spirit of the worjd-cifizerr; who comes to wisdom and knowledge, not through mental processes, but througji the processes of intuition.—Otago Reading Circle.
