LOST DAYS. (Received This Day at 10.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 26. During the period 1913 to 1919, industrial disputes totalled 1,678 involving 556,000 workers and ten million working days were lost. Commonwealth figures show 2613 disputes affecting 761,000 workers and 14,809,000 days lost. A GIRL SHOT. SYDNEY, November 26. A returned, soldier, Alexander McLean, fatally shot a girl of eighteen and committed suicide at Macksville. The motive was jealousy. THE BASIC WAGE. (Received This Day at; 10.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 26. In the Representatives, Mr Tudor moved in accordance with Mr Hughes’ Bendigo pledge in 1919, that Government would give immediate effect to th e basic wage finding. Hfe stated some j industries were already paying the wage. From 1913 to 1918 production lias increased by 64 millions, but wages by only 4£ million, or 7 or 8 per cent. While workers received only 4i million increase, manufacturers received nine millions profit. The debate was j adjourned. (

Mrs Chapman was elected alderman in the City Council. Labour candidates were defeated. The electors were apathetic, only ten per cent voting.
SYNOD AND LIQUOR. NEWCASTLE, Nov. 26. The Anglican Synod passed a resolution against prohibition ,but urged the people to make a close study of the liquor problem with a view to reforming the trade.
COMMERCIAL. NEWCASTLE, Nov. 26. At the hides sale, competition was firm. Kips advanced a farthing to halfpenny, other sorts being unaltered. ■Barley,' English 6/6, Cape 5/6 oats, with practically no demand, 2/10, 2/7. Potatoes £B, Onions £9, £lO. SALARIES OF M’sP. SYDNEY, Nov. 26. Correction. —The Commission recommends members of Parliament salaries at £875, Ministers £1945, AttorneyGeneral £2095, Premier £2445. The Labour caucus adopted the recommendations, also commensurate increases for the Speaker and Chairman of Committees, and recommended a Bill to give effect immediately he introduced in Parliament. EMPLOYERS FEDERATION. SYDNEY, Nov. 26. At the annual meeting of the Employers Federation, the President in his address,. referring to the loss of time and money through strikes, said what Australia was suffering from was the temporary and accidental prominence aad power of those autocratic Caesars and j Romanoffs of the Labour Party. Until they were replaced by men of greater j ability, experience and moderation , there would be little respite from in- | dustrial turmoil unrest. He claimed that the Arbitration Courts had proved ; a restraining influence and power for good, hardly to be overestimated.

The annual conference of the Nationalist Phrty adopted a resolution in favour of the increase of old age
pensions, in view of the high cost of living, and Government supported hospitals, instead of leaving those institutions dependent on public subscription.
