CONVENT CONCERT

The annual concert arranged by St Columbkille Convent is always an event looked forward to by the community with decided pleasure, so that it was not at all surprising to find, in spite of the very inclement weather, that the Princess Tfieatre last evening held a very iarge and enthusiastic audience. ‘And tlie large assemblage were not disappointed,'for the programme submitted proved a decided’treat, the pupils of tlie Sisters proving their adaptability fo the work of their tutors. The programme given was published in detail in our "columns, and each and every item was of decided merit, numerous recalls being most vociferously demanded. Tlie’ vocal"’numbers were excellently given both solos , and part songs, while’ Hie instrumental numbers showed there is a great amount of talent among the ’ young people. T ' vo sketches in wjiich the young people took the parts, were noticeable for the excellence of the manner in which the parts ivere taken, these presentations being remarkably successful, though the closing one was to some exteiit spoilt by the heavy -downpour that almost prevented” the speakers voices being clearly heartf. Mr AY. Jeffries took the opportunity during tlie interval of conveying the thanks of the Sisters to the large assemblage for their substantial patronage antj te the Town Band lor 'assistance' outside prior to the concert, also' expressing bis .appreciation of the splendid programme being given, which one and all so thoroughly enjoyed. Tlie National Anthem concluded an excellent entertainment.
