The "Wool Position. The position is that the world is faced with exceptionally large stocks of wooY hut that these are predominantly cross bred wools, and the production of merino wool has substantially diminished owing to the drought. ' ' 3 A meeting of the Committee of the Hokitika Bowling Club will be held in ihe pavilion to-morrow (Thursday) even ng at 7 o’clock sharp, to deal with the question of the annual Coast tournament and other matters. A full attendance is desired promptly. There was some unfavourable criti:ism last night, outside of Princess Fheatre, at the action of the managenent of the Smart Set Diggers Company in closing down the sale of tickets co the pit, well before 7.30 p.m., on die grounds that the pit was full. As i matter of fact, at 8 ! o’clock there ivere a number of empty seats in the the pit. The general public, in substantial numbers refused to pay 4/and as a result quite a large number went away. The action was the subject of much protest and unfavourable comment. The death is reported of Mr'Thomas Treloar at the Christchurch Hospital on Monday, aged 76 years. Mr Treloar was a prominent figure in journalism in Hokitika many years ago. He was leader writer on the “West Coast Times” during the editorship of the late Mr R. C. Reid, and subsequently became editor of the “Hokitika Guardian” when published from the central premises in (Revell Street adjoining the Golden Age Hotel. At that time, also, he was the writer of a weekly column in the “Guardian” 'undiejr the nqm de ■plume of “Chiffonier” which created considerable stir. Mr Treloar was a ready writer, not to say caustic at times. He settled in Christchurch over 20 years ago, and remarried there. He . was a brother of Sir William Treloar the ex-Lord Mayor of London who had ' done) such splendid philanthropic worit for crippled children in the Homeland.
