AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

A meeting of the Westland Branch of the above Association was held on Saturday, the 20th. at 8 p.m. There were present, Mr G. Davidson (Chairman), ' Messrs Simpson, Stuart,. Jiobinson, Williams and Perham. The minutes of the*previous meeting was read and confirmed and a. largo amount' of inward and outward correspondence was dealt with. The meeting discussed at some length the matter of a letter from the Westland County Council, also a copy of a letter the County received from tho Hon. Mr Nosworthv, Minister for Tourists and Health Resorts} reporting •adversely on the improving of Lake Kanieri Road, and it was decided that the Association support the Council to its fullest extent;- and the Secretary was iinstructed N to communicate with the Minister direct, and also that the Canterbury and Greymouth Associations be asked to co-operate in the matter, as it ivas fully agreed by the meeting that the traffic and importance of the road demanded immediate attention, and it "’as certainly dangeious in its present state, j The question of conformity of fares for motor cars submitted to the Association by the County Council was considered, and after some discussion it was moved by Mr D. Stuart, and seconded by the Chairman and carried, “That tiiis Association is of opinion that the charge should be on a mileage basis, and that a rate of 1/6 per mile Avould be a reasonable rate, Avith a minimum charge of 2/6, It Avas resolved on the motion of Mr Simpson tliat the Borough Council he requested to put a few loads of metal on fie well Street between Weld and Stafford Streets, also to ask the County Council to level and Aviden a. portion of the Kanieri Road, on the Kanieri side of Morris’ ’Hill. • After various other matters were dealt Avith ■ and accounts passed for payment, the meeting closed at 10»p.m.
