The Federal basic wage commission recommended the following:—Sydney, £5 17s; Melbourne, £0 16s; Hobart £5 16s lid; Adelaide £5 16s Id; Newcastle £0 los 6d; Perth, £5 13b Id; Brisbane, £5 6s Id. Mr Hughes declined to comment, but informed his supporters that the wages bill of the Commonwealth would be increased by seventy to one hundred million sper year. The report was unanimous, the employers’ representatives dissenting on minor matters only. FEDERAL POLITICS. , MELBOURNE, Nov. 23. In the Representatives Mr Hughes, in moving the second reading of the Bill providing to repeal the war precautions , outlined the provisions of a proposal to retain control of primary products and coal, the admission of undesirable persons to the Commonwealth Power over companies firms, the prevention of seditious speaking and writing, and persons attempting to stir up disloyalty or create disaffection would be required to take the oath of loyalty, and if they refused would be deported.
