The visit of His Excellency the Gov-ernor-General to the West Coast of this Island is likely to take place about February next, and it is not unlikely the tour may include a visit to Waiho Glacier, South Westland. In connection with claims for possession of tenements, Mr McCarthy, S.M. at Christchurch yesterday issued a warn ing to houseowners who seek to obtain through an order of the Court, the opportunity to profit by the prevailing enhanced values. When owners of houses come to Court and say they desire to have a tenant ejected so that the owners may be able to occupy the house themselves, and they subsequently sell the houses in question these people are laying themselves open to prosecution for perjury, said the Magistrate. Tho management have made every effort to bring their pupils to perfection, and the programme which is to be rendered on Wednesday evening promises to eclipse anything put forward in the past. The bookings and sale of tickets are going on apace and everything points to a bumper house to greet the efforts of the children.

The marriage took place at Westport last Wednesday at St Canice’s Church of Miss Margaret Jackson (eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Jackson, Alderly Street, Westport), and Mr Thomas Lalor, of South Beach, Greymouth. Tho Rev Monsignor Walshe officiated. The bride looked charming in a frock of white crepe de chine with trimmings of ninou and pearls, carried a posje of white flowers with satin streamers, and wore the orthodox veil. Miss Florence Jackson, sister of tho bride, was bridesmaid ,and looked sweet in a dress of lemon-coloured crepe de chine trimmed with forget-me-not blue, bridesmaid also carried a posie of cream and wore a black tulle hat with touches of blue and blacv satin streamers. The roses. Mr Lalor was supported by Mr W. Quinn of Greymouth, as best man.

Pickett, which took place unexpectedly at Auckland yesterday morn

ing. The deceased was born at Auckland in 1852, and was therefore 68 years of age. He joined the Bank of New Zealand in his youth, and after serving in various places had charge of the Agency at Reefton from 1882 till 1891. He then was transferred to Ross and after a couple of years ‘went to Kumara where he remained for several years till he retired from the service. After living in Hokitika for some years he removed to Auckland. His wife has been on a visit to Hokitika for some time owing to the illness of her father (Mr J. Mandl) and the news of her hus band’s death would come as a great shock. Mrs Pickett went north this morning by the overland route. A young daughter is also left.
