ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. (By Telegraph*— Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale yesterday:— CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 18. Store Slieep.—There was a small entry, mostly of ewes and lambs, which were dull of sale. The market generally was depressed, especially for all classes of slieep in tlie wool. Shorn hoggets sold from 17s to 21s, a few extra good up to 255. Ewes and lambs ii. wool, from 14s to 20,5, a few extra good young ewes up to 22s 6d. Best shorn’ 4-tooth wethers to 275, others from 21s to 255. In face of the wool market wo consider it advisable to shear before offering. Wethers 46s 6d 53s 6d, prime 41s to 455, medium 36s to 39s (id. "Not many ewes in the wool Mere offering; but they made from ,29s to 44s 6d. Graziers were not operat-j ing to any extent.
Beef.—A very large yarding, and the n-hfleet all round was easier especially foi light and unfinished sorts. Some extra good lines were offered. One especially good line of steers from the West Ctiast of excellent quality, realised frbni £2B to £34 10s. Best steers mrldc from £24, to £B4 IDs,' a fefr extra gOotl to £37. Prime steels £2l to £23 15s, light arid uhfiiiished £l4 to £l7 ss, riietliulii sdftS £l7 10s to £2O. Good cows arid heifers ill the same propoHidh, blit iiiferibr sorts wel-e hard to sell alld frerfe decidedly easier. Stole (,'attlc. —A large yai'ding and mixed entry including soirie from Southland. Not iriariy large cattle Merc offered. ' The gbiieral tolie of the market was very depressed and all sales iveie difficult to make. Best 2) yerir steers £6 12s 6d to £9 ss, 18 months to 2 year old £5 15S to £7 ss; mixed six yearlings £3 to £5 ss; good j refill cows £5 to £7 10s. All dairy cows were very in rich easier. .Mutton.—A larger yarding and too many for butchers icquirnienls, consequently the market opened easier, ami dropped off considerably as the s ile progressed. Mostly shorn sheep were offered and any sheep in the wool suffered most, butchers hanging off, these sorts awaitiiig the result of tomorrow’s skin sale. Best shorn wethers 37s Gd to Lis; others 82s (Id to 3.L 10d; lighter arid inferior Mis to 335; shorn ewes 24s to 38s 6d. A few extra good to 42s 6d.
Commercial. LONDON, Nov. 16. Peninsular shipping shares are quoted:—Buyers £450 ; sellers £470. The price of gold has been fixed here at 120 s 9d per ounce. The United States buyers are taking tlie small quantity of gold that is offered. Bank of Australasia stock is quoted at 83); Bank of New South Wales 23) ; Union Bank 12); National Bank of New Zealand 12; Bank of New Zealand 731 and 23) ; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile 58 and 95. At to-day’s London wool sales rather a hotter demand prevailed, with fewer withdrawals, but the reserves for crossbred wools were lower. Tho reserves for combing merinos were still too high for buyers to buy. Prices were generally unchanged.
