PUKEKAWA MURDER

At the Pukekawa murder trial today, William James Taylor, licensee of Tuakau hotel gave evidence of a conversation between him and Thorn in the presence of a reporter. They were in the taproom of tho hotel when the accused asked “What do you think will happen ” Witness replied “I am satisfied the police are hound to get you or someone else,” or words to that effect. Thorn said “If they get me, I will drag in some other. There is someone nearer the end of a rope than they think.”. Witness said: “I do not know whether you are innocent or guilty, but I think you are very foolish to talk like that.” Andrew Shugar said he was present when the accused exclaimed: “By if they- get me, I will 'drag someone there into it. There is someone nearer the rope than they think they are.”
