Mr -Veitcli has received a cable from Suva stating about 140 Indians have arrived there and are contemplating departure for Auckland at tho first opportunity. Mr Veitch telegraphed to the Minister of Immigration strongly recommending immediate action to prevent the Indians coming to New Zenlal ' d WHAKATANE HARBOUR. WHAKATANE, This Day. Desiring a plan for the future, Whnkatane Harbour Board received a report from its own engineer, Mr Adams, re. garding a deep water harbour scheme. It provides for a minimum ot thirty-four feet of water and will berth a vesso Isix hundred feet in length, with ultimate accommodation for ten oversea twelve thousand tonners in addition to improved coastal shipping facilities. Mr Blair Mason has been invited to report on the scheme. A VICTORY HIGHWAY. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 16. 'Die Council of the New Zealand Motor Garage Proprietary Association discussed a proposal to commemorate the victory in the war by forming a national highway through the Dominion and resolmtioned that this Council emphatically approves of the national principle of a projected victory highway in concrete through the two islands of Kew Zealand in commemoration of the whole of New Zealand’s work for victory. ARBITRATION COURT AWARD. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 16. An unusual procedure has been adopted by the Arbitration Court in the amendment to Canterbury Engine drivers Award filed last week. The Court has unloaded all previous bonuses and embodied them in the new basic wage, the highest grade engine drivers now being paid' at the rate of 2/11 nei hour.
