U.S.S COMPANY

TRANSFER OF HEADQUARTERS. DUNEDIN, Nov. 1. Since tlie P and 0. Company acqtiired practically the whole of the shares in the Union Steam Ship Company, and thereby assumed a preponderating voice in its management, rumour has been busy in more directions than one. Another rumour which has had currency among a considerable sectiou of tlie public is to the effect that sooner or later the head office of the company will be removed to Wellington, and speculations as to the probable date of removal have appeared from time to tune in the Press of tlie Dominion. Within the last month or two these speculations have given place to definite statements that the change alleged to be impending has definitely been decided upon, and that it cannot be much longer delayed. Colour was lent to the statement by the knowledge that the company lias been busily engaged for months past in extensive alterations, to it's Wellington office, the extensions being, it was believed, for the purpose of accommodating the whole of the headquarters staff at present domiciled in Dunedin. There is good reason to believe that the public impression in regard to the transfer of the head office of the Union Steam Ship Company to Aldington is justified, and that the change will be made very shortly. It is understood to be the intention that the general manager and-diis large staff shall ere long enter into possession of the enlarged and rearranged Wellington office.
