FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12th. 'j'lio Council met at 7.45 p.m. 1 iesent—Messrs G. A. Perry, (Mayor), Breeze, King, Parkliill, Wood, lhompson, and Warren. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Coulson, Blank and McGregor, The minutes were confirmed, and outward correspondence approved, INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Prime Minister nsknowledging resolution of Council urging registration of all motor drivers and stating consideration would be duly given.— Received. Mr Breeze Urged that some steps bo taken to protest against the inclusion of Hokitika in the Grey Harbor rating district. It was pointed out that the Council had already entered a Vigorous protest Imt nothing could be done now until the Commission, under the amending act, just passed was set up. It was resolved to ask Mr geddon M.l\, what the actual position was as regards the effect of the Bill on Hokitika Borough, the Mayor to take any necessary action on receipt of plyFrom State Advances Department Wellington, in connection with arrangements for sale of a condemned building.—Received. From Grey Harbour Board, notifying a conference at Greyinouth.— Received. The Mayor said no action had been taken, the Council not being a party to the Bill. From A. Aitken offering £2 per annum free of rates for rent of small reserve, 'Livingstone 'Street. —Received; and offer accepted. From Miss K. Barton, resigning position as librarian.—Received and resig- j nation accepted with regret. The appointment of a Successor was referred to the Library Committee to arrange. From Secretary Presbyterian Church Kumara, enquiring if the Council bad any bells for sale.—Received; It was stated that the bells in the clock tower which had been removed could not be sold as the memorial was held in trust. From Secretary Kilwinning Lodge applying for use of Town Hall for night of ,30tb. inst. —Received and request granted. From Treasurer .reporting receipts £l9O 18s lid; payments £287 8s 9d; Dr. balance £036 13s 4d.—Received. Accounts amounting to £306 15s lid \vei*3 passed for payment. From Manager of Abattoirs (Mr J. Jarman) reporting during October there were examined 17 cows 57 bullocks, 260 sheep, 2 lambs, 3 pigs, 7 calves. Condemned 2 cows, 2 sheep. Fees for period £sl 2s 6d.—Received. O VER SEER ’ S REPORT. I have the'honour to report on work done during the past month as follows : Owing to the large amount of wet weather prevailing, besides a, number of the staff being away on holiday leave we were unable to put in a great deal of time in the construction of the Hall St. drain. For the month just ended we constructed a chain and a quarter of this work. We v also made two chains of pipes for this drain during the month. The stand pipe opposite the Red Lion Hotel was taken: up when it was found that the end going into the River had corroded away. We renewed this section, also extending it further into the River. The Brigade intend giving it a. trial next practice night. One ordinary house connection was connected up with the water main. A good deal of maintenance work in the way of repairing old wooden drains was carried out during the month, was carried out during the month. — Received. Tenders for printing the balance sheet were opened and that of the Guardian and Times Coy. accepted at £7 7s. Mr Breeze referred to the contents of the museum and urged that attention be given to save some of. the contents which were of inestimable value. A discussion followed, tbe matter being referred to the Library Committee for attention. The Council rose at 8.20 p.m.
