TELEPHONE PHOTOGRAPHS. PARIS, Aug. 20. Vivacious, fluent, dapper, M. Edouard Belin, the inventor of the renin l ivable process for the transmission of photographs by telephone, the efficiency of which was demonstrated by the picture (telephoned from Antwerp) printed in the Continental Daily Mail on Sunday, has the appearance more of an energetic man of business than of a scientist. “I was originally a law student,” M. Belin told me this evening, “and the idea of transmitting pictures by telephone came to me in 189 G when I was attending the first exhibition in the provincial town where I lived of the earliest kinematograph film. “Shortly after that I gave up the law and devoted my time to scientific research. In 1904 I took out the first patent in France for the transmission of pictures by telegraph. “Familiar as I am with wireless telegraphy and telephony, I am constantly amazed at their limitless possibilities, and at the revolutionary changes that will be made by their development.'”
