Coles, fourth daughter of Mr James Coles, of Lydbury, North Shropshire, England, and Mr Thomas Robhison, returned, soldier, youngest son of Mr T. Robinson,, stationer, Hokitika. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dr. Holloway. The bride who made a very pretty picture, wore a dress of white crepe de chine with silver bea-1 trimming with touches of blue and orthodox wreath and veil and carried a shower bouquet of tea "roses and N.Z orccliid, and was given away Mr 11 W. R. Sweney. The bride was attended by Miss 'Lily I. Sweney as bridesmaid who wore white voile with bead trimming and Valenciennes lace and cai ried a bouquet of pink roses and N. Z. Orchids, and accompanied by a flower girl, Miss M. Robinson, who wore blue voile and carried a pretty basket of flowers. The duties of best man were ably carried out by Mr H. Bell. Poherua. It appears that at 10.60 o’clock deceased, accompanied by a fireman named Murphy, came along the wharf with the intention of boarding the vessel. Instead of using the gangway they essayed to spring on board find in the act of doing so Riley fell between the ship’s side and the wharf. Murphy, however, effected a safe landing. Riley was seen t 0 drop, J and he did not re-appear. The police : were communicated with, and Constable Houston was quickly on the scene. Dragging operations resulted in the body being brought to the surface at 11.30 arm. Attempts to resuscitate de- : ceased proved unavailing, and Dr McKay, who in the meantime had been | called pronounced life extinct. So far ; as is known ,deceased is a single man, i 35 years of age, and joined the ship at , Lyttelton on October 26th last. It is i probable that, while'falling, he struck himself against some object as there is not much space between the ship s side and tho wharf. The weekly tournament and dance was held in St. Mary’s Club rooms ; last evening and was well attended. Tlie ladies prizes presented by Mrs H. Jones and a well wisher of the Club were won by Mrs J.
