AUSTBALIAN A’ N.Z. CABLE *SBOCIATION|, AMERICA AND THE LEAGUE. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, Nov.. 8. It is stated that Eli Root opposed the renouncing of the League of Nations, and was at variance with the views expressed by Mr Harding during the campaign. Root’s position was stated in a cablegram from London to Harding last August. He said the attempt to abandon the Versailles Treaty would bring chaos, entire loss of the results of the war, and a general disaster involving the United States. He suggested the League should be accepted with Mr Lodge’s reservations and other changes.
