The Budget showed the expenditure for the past year exceeded the estimate * by £3,941,000 chiefly due to the operation of the new basic wage. Railway and tramway earnings exceeded the estimates by £1,222,000. Interest on the public debt for the current year would show an increase from £6,333,003 to £7,095,000. Under the new taxation proposals it is expected to receive £240,000 from racecourse admission tickets, £300,000 from , stamp duties, £1,651,000 from income tax, an increase of £40,000 from totalisato r , £93,000 from harbor tonnage rates. In the House of Representatives, Mr Hughes called the speaker’s attention to what he alleged were the disloyal utterances of Mr Mahon, ex-Minister and member for Kalgoolie at the Irish demonstration at Richmond, at which a resolution was carried favouring an Australian Republic. Asked if they were correct reports Mr Mahon replied to Mr Hughes “Go to the devil.” It is understood that a motion for Mr Mahon’s expulsion is contemplated. STRIKE OFF. ; BRISBANE, Nov. 10.
