AUCKLAND, Nov. 8. The Chief Justice, in his charge to the Grand Jury at the opening of the Supreme Court to-day saic| that the evidence would show that Eyre, the victim, did not .commit . suicide, ..but was shot by a, left handed man.. The accused man, Thorne,, it appeared, had been carrying on with Mrs Eyre. lie had not denie.d her statement to that effect.. Acorcijii" to the evidence, he evidently had an attachment for Mrs Eyre. •,, . His Honour read tffe evidence of alleged statements by Thorne, which, he said, upheld, that .Thorne kneiy who I committed the .murtjer, .yet lie Sid not chopse to give an explanation why he i made those utterances. He might do * so when he came before the jury.
