ARMISTICE DAY

(Our Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 6.Hon W. F. Massey told the House today that he intended to people to celebrate Armistice Day on Thursday next, by a two minutes silence at eleven o’clock in the morning. He bad received a cablegram informing him that at that hour an unknown British warrior would be buried at Westminster Abbey. Mr Massey read a telegram from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, outlining the proposal to bury an unknown soldier in Westminster Abbey at 11 o’clock on tho morning of November 11th in connection with tho observation of armistice day ceremonies. At the moment of burial itjWas proposed to observe a two minutes complete silence, and it was hoped a similar act of respect would be observed all over the Empire. Mr Massey said the department of Internal Affairs proposed to ask the people of the Dominion to cease work at the appointed time in accordance with the request. The question of asking the churches to hold religious services on armistice day, would be considered.
