South Australia to-day. The attendance was poor. Douglas won the toss and sent in South Australia. - Pellew and Smith were the opening batsmen. At the second ball Pellew was caught at point by Parkin, off Woolley. Stirling was pext caught at short leg '_ , off Parkin. In the same over Smith * was bowled by Parkin. The ball struck him on the chest and cannoned on to the wicket. Gehrs was. baffled by Parkin’s deliveries, and ) was bowled by him for , - a- duck. Four wickets were down for 4 runs. | A Richardson and Henry then were partnered and showed a semblance of ! brightness. The former late-cut Woolley' for seven runs. The wicket was extremely difficult. i Henry hit Parkin full to square leg to the boundary .and also drove him to the deep side for a couple. The first 50 runs took forty-eight minutes to get. j Henry was dismissed by Parkins. The j last named bowler had now taken 5 : wickets for 30 runs. The score stood at 5 for 72. A. Henderson joined J. Richardson, but the partnership was short. The former miss-hit a half volley to Hobbs at cover and was out for seven. Rundell followed, made a s single, and was bowled by Parkin, who had now taken 6 wickets for 36 runs. The wicket was made to order for Parkin, who did some extraordinary breaking. At lunch, the score was 77 for 8. Parkin bowled Phillips with tho fourth ball on resuming. Richairdson, in atteimpting to hit Woolley to long on, was bowled. Ho made 38 in 97 minutes, including three fours. The innings closed for 118 after 121 minutes batting. Off Tfiurgarland’s first ball, a full toss, Russell squarely found tho boundary and also sent a similar ball out of the ground for six. Fourteen were soored off the first over and fifty in thirty minutes. Russell was badly missed twice. One hundred runs were scored in 113 minutes. Hobbs miss-hit Smith to square leg and was caught by -- Pejlow with the score at 116. Hobbs showed aoun’d defence. Hearne joined Russell and runs, came mostly in singles Hearne in 49 minutes making 29. H’ hit Rundell to the square leg boundary. Both wero cautious. The wicket improved considerably and runs should have been free. Russell’s century, came after 150 minutes. He made eleven fours and one sixer. Stumps were then drawn.
