—— «*♦*• (Our Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 5. The proceedings on the Marriage Amendment Bill have reached finality at last. The Legislative Council refused at first to accept the amendment made by the House in the clause. This amendment was the omission of the provision fo£ imprisonment as a penalty for impugning a legal marriage. Managers were appointed, and after a conference it was agreed that the clause should remain in the form in which it left the House. This mean(i that the penalty is a fine of £IOO, but under ordinary law a refusal to pay such a fine would involve imprisonment.
