THE COAL TROUBLE
'AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CAULK ASSOCIATION] GOAL MINERS BALLOT. ipNDON, November 3. The coal miners ballot lias concluded. There ia a. majority against the terms of close on 8000. The Yorkshire miners, by two to one voted for the agreement. The Lancashire men were five to one against the terms. The South Wales miners were nine to five against. The Federation Executive met into in the afternoon to receive the full reports, / Mr Robert Smillie pointed out that under the constitution of the Miners’ Federation a two thirds majority was necessary for the continuance of the strike. The complete figures were:—For acceptance of] terms (offered: —338,045 votes, against 346,054. A long discussion followed, and a resolution was adopted that in view of the above mentioned rule, the strike be declared off, and the men advised to resume work to-morrow, or as soon as possibl.
