—— -«H*» (Per Press Association.) STATE HOUSING SCHEME. ' ' ' WELLINGTON, Nor. 2. Ei order to facilitate the work of the housing branch of the Labour Department, the Government has chartered three sailing vessels for the carriage of timber from the West Coast and from the far north. These vessels woill carry timber to Wellington and other ports, close to where houses are being erected. A Government timber yard, in charge of an expert, has been established at Miramar, where timber will be classed and stacked, and whence it will be distributed to the various jobs as required. The housing branch of the Department has organised its force as far as the supply of timber is concerned, and now that transport facilities have been arranged the work of constructing houses is'expected to go ahead steadily. This week several shipments of timber will be arriving front tiie West Coast, and North Auckland; and the vessels will proceed to Miramar wharf direct to discharge. The difficulty in obtaining adequate supplies of cement is interfering with the progress of the work on the concrete houses that are being erected at Miramar.' It is stated that- the shortage is due partly to the fact that insufficient hags are available for bagging 1 cement on its arrival in Wellington. So acute has been the cement s shortage, that contractors have been • not able to make arrangements for even , a couple of days ahead, but it ia antu ■ cipated' that the trouble will be alleviat- ' cd somewhat by' utilising one of the ' chartered vessels, for running occasional 5 trips between Golden Bay anc * ir
