TOKARINA MURDER CASE

W. /NDRESON CHARGED. (Per Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, Nov. 4. Lfindsay Mackey* a ,famn labourer of Ohoura gave evidence that accused came to his father on October 14th., asking for a Loftus rifle, which was given him with six cartridges. Accus-1 ed was quite normal. Constaible J Fleming, Matieri detailed a conversation with accused, the morning after the arrest. Accused asked to go outside when there said, I want to draw your attention to a skin mark on my finger. It was on the -right forefinger. Pointing to this, accused said, that happened when Telfer was shot, but he did not say how. He also said he did not want to shoot witness. He was fair, but he would shoot him or anyone else if he had his rifle and; was cornered. Accused slept well. and was quite normal. Robert Craig gave evidence of taking the rifle from Hindus. Thomas Henry Grant deposed that accused called at his place on October 15th. without the rifle and was given food, and was oiven four cartridges. He offered to pay for his breakfast. Andrew Flemng, farmer of Roto described how accused knocked at his door at 11 o’clock on the nght of Oct. 16th A man named John Hanley was with ! witness and both were armed. Accused called out.—“l don’t want to do yon fellows any harm. I am cold and hungry.” Hanley covered accused as he entered the door.- Accused carried boots in each hand and was searched for shooting' irons. He sat by the fire a;il was given food. Accused said: “I MU ' as sorry as any of you at the death of Telfer. He shot himself. He pulled the rifle into him and on to my trigger finger. Of course lam the cause of his death, but I meant to shoot Jim Loft.” Accused was in no way excited.
