(Per Press Association.) OTAGO. RUGBY UNION. DUNEDIN, Nov. 1. At to-night’s meeting of the Otago Rugby Union, a letter, was received front Mr Combe, Secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union, in which he stated that his Union was till'waiting for an official letter of acceptance of New Zealand’s invitation to the South African team. He further stated that the South African party would consist of twenty-nine players and a manager, and that the estimated cost of. the tour would lie £BOOO.
TIMARU Y.M.C.A. TIMARXi. Nov. 1. The Timaru Y.M.C.A. has purchased for SSOOO, assembly rooms opposite the Post Office and part of an adjoining section. The two-storey brick building will easily be converted foi their use and a gymnasium will l>c added. The section was bought some time ago and can be sold at a profit. The Y.M.C.A. will need to raise £SOOO more than they have in hand to complete the proposals.
4 SHUNTER KILLED. EKETAHUNA, Nov. 2. Leonard Cox, a porter aged 3&, single, of the Eketahuna railway staff, was ' shunting last night when he fell from tin cowcatcher of the engine, and was run over by. a truck, receiving internal - injuries, from which he died in Paliiatua hospital the same evening. WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. At the Heretaunga Links, on a course far from perfect, J. H. Kirkwood, tne Victorian professional, equalled tlie record of 68 made by Arthur Duncan in 1913. With a bit of luck, Kirkwood would have put up a 66.
