TOTALISATOR FRACTIONS

A PROTEST. [PEII PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.] WELLINGTON, November 2. Mr Skerrett (Chairman of the Board 'of Control of th G Sports Protection Lea- ; gne) has addressed a letter to the Hon. j Anderson, stating that —“Notwithstandi ing the convincing reasons already giv--1 en why the present method of handling totalisation fractions should not be disturbed, the Inspector of Totalisators reports that not one sound argument has been adduced why Clubs should be allowed to retain fractions.” Mr Skerrett objects to ' the publication of such a recommendation, and calls on the Minister to stop it. H(e proceeds to contend that the fractions belong to the people who put the money in the totalisator, and go back to them per the medium of the 'Clubs who use th.em for improvements and additions to the stakes.' He denies that Clubs retain the fractions at all. Already nearly half a million is drawn by the Government from racing and it is now ; proposed to take a further forty-two thousand. He concludes by objecting most strongly to the “Extraordinary statements of your totalisator inspector. It appears to me it is no part of his duties to make recommendations relating to matters of policy of which he can have little knowledge, and with which he has no concern., >.
