The totalisator returns amounted to £31,630, an increase of £1996 over last meeting, which was a record for one day’s races of the club. TRIAL PLATO—Spare Moment 1, Melting Moments 2, Sandy MacDonald 9. Won comfortably. Time 1.6. CARTERTON HACK—'Eljeullus 1, Martian Miss 2, Vitella 3. Won by two. .lengths. Time 1.7 3-d. WAIRARABA COUNTY CUP—Rose Pink 1, Sycorax 2, Scornful 3. Won by a length and a half. Time 2.13 3-5. JUMPERS FLAT—O’Rano 1, Master Boris 2, Gladful 3. Time 2.16£. V.R.C. SPRING MEETING. MELBOURNE, October 31. The weather was fine and warm, and a great attendance was present, including the IGoverttor-iGejnjeral and State Governors for the first day of the V.R.C. Spring meeting. Roland Graeme who was unfancied, won the Maiden Plate in the last few strides. He was jridden by McLachlan. The Marilbyrnong Plato was a great race. Antarian on the outside, sprinted very fast at the finish and just won. Furious iust heat Ot-acre for second place Salitros was fifth. Antarian cost 260 guineas as a yearling, and is trained by J. O’Dwyer. Great interest attached to the Melbourne Stakes. Greenstead tried to win all the way, hut Eurythmic finished brilliantly and won. He was loudly cheered. Eurythmic including a dead heat, has been unbeaten -in his last thirteen races. He has won £ll,ll-5 in stakes. MAIDEN PLATE—Roland Grajeme 1, Yooralia 2, Dignity 3. Won by a head.’, Time 1.42£. Tli/irteeu started. MARIBYRNONG PLATE—Antarian 1, Furious 2, Ot-acre 3. Won by a neely, Time 1.13. Fifteen started. MELBOURNE STAKES—Eurythmic 1, Greenstead 2, Poitrel 3. Won by three quarters of a length. Time 2.6). Seven starters. VICTORIAN DERBY—Salitros 1, Nautical 2, Syce Knight 3.. Midilli led in the early stages from Malurys. At the nine furlongs Salitros was second to the last but at seven furlongs Salitros led from Sycc Knight and Nau!tical. Salitros was never again headed and won easily by three lengths from Nautical with Syce Knight third, a length away. Fourteen starters. Time 2.373.
