The Necessary Commodities Commission granted the Australian Gaslight Company’s application to increase the price of gas for street lighting from £3 15s to £9 10s per lamp. Proportionate increases were granted other companies. According to the evidence, film companies have been supplying, ' street lighting at a heavy loss and they' desired the increase to cover the actual cost and increased prices of materials, and production and thus he enabled tp reduce the price to private consumers.
