[run press association.—copyright.] THE COUNCIL. f WELLINGTON, Oct. 29. The -Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Housing Amendment Bill was read a first time. ' The following Bills were passed—Explosives and Dangerous Goods Amendment; Incorporated Societies Amendment; Health Bill; Land Laws Amendment and Animals Protection Amendment. The Council rose at 5.25 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. - The report of tli’k committee on the Marriage Amendment Bill was presented recommending that the amendment made by the Legislative Council be agreed to, except that the imprisonment penalty should be deleted. The motion to table the report was talked out. The Imprest Supply Bill for £3,171, 900 was introduced by Governor General’s message at 7;30 p.m. Mr McCombs moved an amendment that an effort be made to check the cost of living 1% (1) reducing butter to Is 9d per pound, an equalisation fund being provided to recompense producers; (2) remitting the duty on tea; (3) removing primage duty on articles of common necessity; (4) reducing advnlorem duties on articles of common necessity not'made in the Dominion and (5) passing legislation to stop profiteeringAfter a debate, the amendment was defeated by 39 to 18. The Bill was then passed through all stages and the Hdusc rose at 11.30 p.m.
