PURSUANT to "the “Electric-power Boards Act, 1918,” and its amendments, and the “Local Elections and Polls Act, 1908,” and its amendments, an election will be held on WEDNESDAY, the 10th. DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1920, for NINE MEMBERS to constitute the Westland Electric-power Board elected by those of the Electors of ibe County of Westland, within the Westland Electric-Power District. Nominations of Candidates (accompanied by a deposit of £3) will ibe received by the undersigned up to NOON on MONDAY the Ist./DAY OF NOVEMBER 1920, at the office of the County Council of Westland, Hokitika where forms of nomination may be obtained. Dated at Hokitika, this 22nd. DAY of OCTOBER, 1920. D. J. EVANS, Returning Officer for the District, Of the County of Westland. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE SOUTHERN RIDING. _ / LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, AT the request of many of the ratepayers, I have decided to become a candidate at the forthcoming County Election for the position of one of the representatives of the Southern Riding. My long and continuous residence in the Southern district lias given me „a thorough knowledge of its resources and requirements. . I recognise that the completion of the Otira Tunnel joining Westland with Canterbury makes it absolutely necessary that a vigorous Public Works policy by both Government and County should be undertaken in order that the remoter districts should receive the fullest benefit from that work. The bridging of all rivers from the Wnilio South should be a cardinal feature in that policy. The extension of the Ross Railway and the improvement of shipping facilites at Okarit'', Bruce Bay, Okuru and Jackson’s Bay are all / necessary for the development of the land timlber and flax of South WestLand. For many years I have taken a keen interest in the development of that district and in this connection. I find that without some constituted standing individual effort has little or no effect. I do not seek election for personal aggrandisement or gain, but feel that I should place the close and pTactical knowledge of the district what I possess at the services of the electors. If you do me the honour to elect me I shall use my best endeavours to assist the progress and development of South Westland on the lines indicated above. I have the honour to remain, Ladies and Gentlemen," Your obedient Servant, JOHN RJTCHLE.

WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE SOUTHERN RIDING. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, A T the request of a number of ratepayers, I have consented to offer myself as a candidate for the Southern Riding at the approaching County Council election. In soliciting your support, I would respectfully point out that I have a life long knowledge of the district I seek to represent and am conversant with its potentialities and requirements. My best endeavours will be put forth for the advancement of this Riding in particular and the County in general. The bridging of the rivers along the South road, the barly completion of the Otira Tunnel, good roads for the settlers, improvements of the southern harbours for the development of the far South, shall have my special attention, and any other matters that may. be brought forward pertaining to the progress of the district. Hoping to merit your interest and vote on polling day, Wednesday, November 10th., X have the honour to be, Yours faithfully, WM. SEARLE, Herepo.

TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CENTRAL RIDING. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN : 4 T THE REQUEST of a number II of ratepayers, I have consented j to contest a seat for the Central Riding of the Westland County Council at the forthcoming election. As a resident and ratepayer’ of many years standing, I claim to be fully conversant with the requirements of the district, and if honoured with your confidence, will at all times do my utmost to advance the interests of the Riding in particular, and the County generally. While desirous of curtailing any useless expenditure, I am in favour of a more progressive policy in regard to improved load construction, and would give my earnest attention to the better maintenance of traffic bridges throughout the Riding. The deplorable tetate if many of our smaller bridges and culverts, I consider, warrants more durable material being used in their reconstruction. If elected I will do my best to assist all classes of industry and any matter coming before the Council for the betterment of Westland generally will receive my support.

In conclusion, I trust to merit your interest and support on polling day. I have the honour to be, Your obedient Servant, H. H. MONK, Koiterangi.
