' GREYMOUTH, Oct. 26 On Saturday night the professional featherweight contest between Alf Lewis (Sydney) 8.12 J and Dick “Redwing” (Greymouth) 9.0, for 15 rounds and a purse of £llO, ended in a win for Lewis ill the tenth round when lie knocked out “Redwing” after a capital contest. The special bout Joe Garvey (Runanga) 11.2 against “Emerald” (Grey) 10.6, went the six rounds, Garvey being declared the winner on points. The six-round heavyweight contest, Mcßae (Otira) 11.5 v. Rooney (Otira) 11.7, ended in the second round in a win for the latter. - j
A COMING MATCH. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 20. Fallowing a conference between Kearns Descliamps, Coxlian, and Rickard, a bout between Carpentier and Dempsey is virtually assured. It is confidently believed that- articles will be signed before Carpentier leaves for France shortly. Details of the match are not yet known.
