TO THE ELECTORS OF THE SOUTHERN RIDING. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, AT the request of many of the ratepayers, I have decided to become a, candidate at. the forthcoming County Election for the position of one of the representatives of the Southern Riding. My long and continuous residence m tlie Southern district has given me it thorough knowledge of its TCsbiirces and fequirehielits. I recognise that the completion of the ptira Tunnel joining Westland with Canterbury makes it absolutely hfecesstiry that a vigorous Public Works policy by both Government and County should be undertaken in order that tile remoter districts should receive the fullest benefit from that work. The bridging of all rivers from the Wailio South should he a cardinal feature in that policy. The extension of tlie'Ross Railway and the improvement of shipping facilites at Ok a rite, Bruce Bay, Okuru and Jackson’s Bay are all necessary for the development of the land timber and flax of South Westland. - For mafiy years I have taken <1 keen interest in the development of that district and in this connection. I find that without some constituted standing individual effort has little of no effect. I do not seek election for personal aggrandisement or gain, but feel that I°should place tlie close aiid practical knowledge of the district what I possess at the services of the electors. If you do me the honour to elect me I sha*n use my best endeavours to Assist the progress find development of South Westland on the lines indicated above. T have the honour to remain, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, JOHN RITCHIE.
WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE SOUTHERN RIDING . LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, AT the request of a number of ratepayers, I have consented to offer myself as a candidate for the Southern Riding at the approaching CountyCouncil electipn. In soliciting your, support, I would respectfully point out that I have a life long knowledge of the district I seek to represent and am conversant with its potentialities and requirements. My best endeavours will he put forth for the advancement 0 f this Riding in particular and the County in general. The bridging of the rivers along the South road, the early completion of the Otira Tunnel, good roads for the settlers, improvements of the southern haibouis for the development of the far South, shall have my special attention, and any other matters that may bo brought forward pertaining to the progress of the district. Hoping to merit your interest and vote on polling day, Wednesday, November 10th., I have the honour to he, Yours faithfully, WM. SEARLE, Herepo.
