Keen interest was taken ,in the local option poll. As the elections are on the preferential system the counting of votes will he a slow process. No reliable figures were available up to a very late hour, and it will be days before finality is reached oh either political or liquor issues. The Government’s return to power is considered certain. The Senate passed a Bill increasing the Federal Income Tax to five per cent.
