He was 30 years o'd, and a trader in timber and junglo produce. PROPOSED ENQUIRY. SYDNEY, Oct. 20. The N.S.W. Country Press Conference has resolved to ask the Federal Government to searchingly enquire into the manufacture, sale, and business methpds of the paper makers in all the exporting countries, with a view to protecting the Australian consumers against their exploitations.. SWIMMING. SYDNEY, Oct. 20. Harold Hardwick, the amateur swimmer, who is a professional boxer, expresses regret at entering professional boxing. He is seeking absolution from the Amateur Boxing Association with a view to competing in amateur swimming championships. HIDE MARKET. MELBOURNE, Oct. 20. The declining state of the hides and leather market, which has been in operation for some months, continues still. Since April light calf hides have declined seventy-four per cent, and other sorts from twenty-seven to fifty-five per cent. Leather has fallen sixteen •to nineteen per cent. JUDGES DECLINE. SYDNEY, Oct. 20. In the N.S.W. Assembly, Mr Storey the Premier, stated the Judges of the Supremo Court Bench had been separately asked to undertake the commission to investigate the Legislators’ claim for an increased salary, but adopting the attitude of the Chief Justice all had refused to act.
