(By Electric Telegraph—Cooy ll R ut. ; INTERVENTION IN POLAND. LONDON, October 19. It is learnt that a. note handed to the Polish Government on Sunday last by the French and British representatives at Warsaw. It is Btated' that while the note is a friendly expression opinion, it urges the Polish Government should completely disavow the seizure of Vilna, and adds that if the situation is not quickly cleared up, the. French and British Governments will have to consider what further action is necessary. ~ WARSAW, October 19. England and France have made a friendly remonstrance to Poland, regarding General Zeligowski ; inviting a . formal disavowal, but the Polish Premier lias intimated that Poland was disinclined to abandon Vilna, as her claim thereto was supported by the mass of the people of Poland. He unofficially stated that the Government would fall if it complied with the Anglo French request. H. G. WEILLS AND RUSSIA. LONDON, October 20. The novelist, Mr H., G. Wells, has concluded a fortnight’s visit to Russia, at the Soviet Government invitation. He declares the conditions in Russia to be horrible, and almost •e----yond description. He (Wells) and M. Maxim Gorky had worked out a project to establish a refuge colony in Russia for the members of the learned professions, art and sciences, who would undertake not to participate in Russian affairs until an era of reconstruction has arrived. Mr Wells says he hopes to save the remainder' of + he “Intelligentia.” Wells adds that he considers Russia cannot be regenerated without the help of the‘ educated classes.
