Accompanied by his wife, they had walked about half the distance, when Irving without any warning dropped dead. A j post mortem revealed that death was due to heart failure. AUCKLAND, Oct. 18. DUNEDIN, Oct. 14. ft is some considerable time since a . shipment of hardwood was landed at Dunedin, and supplies have consequently become very low. A large consignment of Tasmanian bluegum and palings will he landed here next week by the steamer Induna. This vessel sailed from Burnie on Monday, having on board about 2-10,000 feet. CONS UMPTIVE SANATORIUM. Invercargill, October is. Dr Valintine, the Inspector-General! of Hospitals, met the Southland rnd Wallace Hospital Boards to-day and urged the establishment of a consumptive sanatorium for the South Island at Clyde, which was, ho said, considered to have the clearest atmosphere in the world. It was 'hoped that the South Island boards, including those of North Canterbury and Ashburton, would, contribute towards the cost of the institution. He estimated that a sanatorium /containing 120 to 150 beds would cost, £50,000 out of which the Government would, find and the hoards the balance. The Government were practically certain to under take the maintenance of such an institution. PRISONERS SENTENCED. WELLINGTON, October 18. At- the Supreme Court to-day, Sir John Salmond sentenced ten- prisoners. They were as follows: Horace Charles Hannan and Roydman Frank Harry, for breaking ><nd entering and theft at Taihapo, two years each. Frank Lanton, theft of benzine, at Foxton, six months hard labour. Frank Ethelbert Oakes, fprgery and uttering (fire charges) six months. Norman McLean Gunn (four charges) of forgery at -Napier, twelve months hard labour. ' George Pitcher, theft, at Dnnnevirke 9 months. Randolph A. Pager, breaking, entering and l theft at New Plymouth, 2 years’ reformative detention. - Robert G. Neil, breaking and entering and theft at Otaki, 3 years’ reformative treatment. TIMARU’S BY-LAW INVALID. TIMARU, Oct. 14. Mr Mosley, S.M., to-dav gave reserved decision in a prosecution under the borough by-law in force since 1906, limiting the speed of motor-cars to 10 mile's an hour within the borough. Mr Mosley agreed with the defence, rind on certain' Supreme Court decisions declared the by-law invalid as unreasonable, as it fixed a uniform speed for all streets and all hours of the day.
